Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

October is usually warm and pleasant in the park, with average highs in the low 70s °F at Pine Springs and cold mornings. The summit is often about 10°F colder and 10 mph windier, so a calm trailhead can still mean a cold, gusty ridge. The rainy season runs from May through September and can bring afternoon thunderstorms. Wind season starts in November, and from then until March gusts of 50–80 mph sometimes hit the high country. Snow and ice can also coat the upper trail in winter. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS forecast the evening before and the morning of your hike.

Admission and parking are separate. Check current conditions before departure.

A good day, in the bag.
