Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

In spring (March–May) and early fall (September–October), Austin afternoons are usually warm and often hot by May and September, with mild evenings; spring also brings the year's wildflowers and occasional strong storms, and fall brings cold fronts that make for a cooler, breezier day. Heavy thunderstorms are possible in both seasons, and Austin is prone to flash flooding: in heavy rain, stay off flooded trail sections and never walk or drive through moving water. Pavement and the open lakeside trail hold the heat, so plan indoor stops for early afternoon. Cool, wet or windy evenings can also stop the bats from flying. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS forecast before you go.

A good day, in the bag.
