Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

In the best windows, April–May and mid-September through October, Austin afternoons are usually warm to hot (often 80s°F), with milder mornings and evenings; late spring and fall cold fronts can bring cooler, breezy days. Heavy thunderstorms are most common in spring and fall and can close paddle rentals and send runoff into Lady Bird Lake and Barton Creek. The spring water at Barton Springs stays near 68–70°F year-round, so it feels bracing on a cool morning and refreshing on a hot afternoon. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS forecast before leaving and before heading up Mount Bonnell. Central Texas is prone to flash floods: never drive or walk into water over a road, and on hot afternoons drink often and rest in the shade.

Admission and parking are separate. Check current conditions before departure.

A good day, in the bag.
