Privacy policy.
Last updated October 13, 2026
Greg’s Guides is run by Tecnicl LLC. This policy covers the website at www.gregsguides.com and the Greg’s Guides app for iPhone and iPad. It explains what we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and how you can see or delete it.
The short version
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics. The website and app don’t use advertising, tracking or analytics services of any kind.
- We never sell your information or share it for anyone else’s marketing.
- We never send you communications you don’t request. No newsletters, no marketing email.
- You can delete your account at any time, on the website or in the app.
What we collect
When you create an account
- Your name and email address. Your email is how you sign in and where we send things you ask for, like a password reset.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. We can’t read it.
- Your phone number, if you choose to add one.
- Your home city and state or province, if you choose to add them. We use them only to unlock free guides offered near where you live.
- Passkeys, if you set one up. We store only the passkey’s public key. Face ID, Touch ID and fingerprints never leave your device.
When you buy or get a guide
- Which guides you have, when you got them and an order reference, so they stay in your account.
- Website purchases are paid through Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe’s own page, and we never see or store your card number. Stripe tells us the order was paid, along with the email address and name given at checkout, which we use to send your order link.
- App purchases are made through Apple. Apple sends us a signed record of the purchase: which guide was bought, its transaction number and the account identifier the app attaches so the guide goes into the right account. Apple doesn’t share your payment details or Apple Account with us.
- Promotions: if you use a promo code or offer, we record that it was used, so its limits work.
When you send us something
- Route proposals: the route you describe, and the name you’d like credited if we publish it. That name appears on the guide’s page only if your route becomes a guide.
- Friend invitations: your friend’s email address and your note. We email them once, at your request, and keep the invitation so you can see whether they joined and so we never email them twice. We don’t email them again unless they sign up.
- Emails you send us, so we can reply.
Automatically
- Cookies. We use two, both necessary for the site to work: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 7 days, and a random identifier that keeps your private guide links working only in your own browser, kept for up to a year. Neither is used for tracking or advertising.
- Your browser’s storage. The website remembers your bag and any promo code in your own browser. They stay on your device.
- Server logs. Our web server records each request’s IP address, browser type and the page requested. We keep these logs for about two weeks to keep the site secure and fix problems. We also briefly count requests by IP address to stop people from guessing passwords.
In the iPhone and iPad app
The app uses the same account as the website. Guides you buy or save are stored on your device so they work offline, along with the guide list and photos. The app contains no advertising, tracking or analytics software.
How we use it
- To run your account and give you your guides on the website and in the app.
- To process orders and send what you ask for: your order link, password resets and invitations you send to friends.
- To unlock free guides near your home, if you’ve told us where that is.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse, such as repeated password guessing.
- To let our own team know when someone signs up or places an order, so we can help if something goes wrong.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the companies that help us run Greg’s Guides, and only what they need to do that job:
- Stripe processes website payments.
- Apple processes purchases made in the app.
- SMTP2GO delivers the emails we send.
- Amazon Web Services hosts our website and stores guide files.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We never sell your information or share it with anyone for their own marketing.
How long we keep it
- Your account and guides are kept until you delete your account.
- When you delete your account, we remove it along with your guides, profile, passkeys, route proposals, invitations you sent and the order emails sent for your orders. We keep a record that a promotion was used, so its limits still count, but without your account or email address.
- Payment records stay with Stripe and Apple, which keep them for accounting, refunds and legal reasons.
- Copies in our database backups are removed as the backups are replaced.
Your choices
- See and update your information on your account page or in the app’s Account tab.
- Delete your account from the account page (Delete my account) or in the app (Account, then Delete account).
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete anything, by emailing us. We’ll answer wherever you live.
Security
The website uses HTTPS, passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and links to your guides are private: they expire after an hour and work only in the browser they were made for. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and keep only what we need.
Children
Greg’s Guides isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. We’ll never start using your information in a new way, such as advertising, without asking you first.
