Late September to mid-October in the Berkshires usually brings chilly, sometimes frosty mornings, with fog in the river valleys, then mild, often sunny afternoons. Cold fronts every few days can bring rain and wind, and a hard rain or gale can bring leaves down early. Days shorten fast: sunset is around 6:30 pm at the start of October and about 6:15 pm by mid-month. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS forecast the evening before and the morning of your trip.
