Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

In April and May, the foothills around Grass Valley and Nevada City are usually green and mild, with warm afternoons, cool mornings and the chance of a showery day; the river runs high with snowmelt. In late October and November, days are typically crisp and sunny, nights cold, and the first winter storms can bring a soaking rain. These towns sit roughly 2,500 feet up, so they are cooler than Sacramento, especially after dark, and the river canyon at Bridgeport is lower and warmer than the towns. Summer days often reach the 90s, and wildfire smoke can drift in from late summer into fall. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS forecast.

A good day, in the bag.
