Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

From mid-February to March, Julian, at about 4,200 feet, usually has cold mornings, often near freezing, and mild afternoons; late-winter storms can bring rain or occasional snow and make the mountain roads slick. The desert floor around Borrego Springs, more than 3,000 feet lower, is usually mild to warm and very sunny, and a March heat spell can make afternoons hot on the shadeless Palm Canyon trail. Gusty winds can blow dust across the valley. Rain or a hot, dry wind can shorten the bloom. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS San Diego forecast the evening before and the morning of your trip.

A good day, in the bag.
