Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

From late September to early November, days in the Catoctin area are usually mild and dry enough for hiking, with cool mornings that can dip near freezing by late October, and the ridge feels several degrees cooler and breezier than Frederick or Baltimore. Leaves on the mountain usually turn from early October and peak around mid to late October. Rain can make the rocks and roots slick for a day or two. Sunset comes around 7 pm in late September and around 5 pm after the clocks change in early November. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the NWS forecast.

Admission and parking are separate. Check current conditions before departure.

A good day, in the bag.
