A Weekend in Waterton Lakes National Park weekend

A Weekend in Waterton Lakes National Park

Two nights in Waterton, where the prairie runs straight into the mountains: Cameron Falls and the Prince of Wales Hotel on Friday evening, a hike to Lower Bertha Falls, a cruise down Upper Waterton Lake and the red rock of Red Rock Canyon on Saturday, and a calm early morning at Cameron Lake before the drive home. The park is still growing back from the 2017 Kenow Wildfire, and the guide says where you'll see it.

Plan for the conditions

Expected seasonal weather

In July and August Waterton usually sees highs in the low to mid 20s °C (70s °F) and cool nights near 7–9 °C (mid-40s °F); June and September are cooler, with highs nearer 15–18 °C (60–65 °F), and snow is possible at higher elevations in any month. June is usually the wettest month. Waterton is known for its wind, and gusts on the lake and ridges can be strong enough to cancel cruises. In late summer, wildfire smoke can haze the views. These are seasonal expectations, not a forecast for your travel date; check the Environment and Climate Change Canada forecast and Parks Canada conditions the evening before and each morning.

Admission and parking are separate. Check current conditions before departure.

A good day, in the bag.
